“Me Too” @ the Vancouver International Film Festival
The Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) will be showcasing a film called Me, Too (Yo, tambien), a Spanish film with English Subtitles directed by Alvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro. The synopsis for the film reads:
Thirty-four year-old Daniel (Pablo Pineda, in a remarkably affecting turn) is the first European with Down syndrome to have graduated from university. Finding himself between two worlds, he starts a social service job in Seville, where he meets free-spirited co-worker Laura (Lola Dueñas). It is not long before their burgeoning friendship starts to draw the attention – not always approving – of co-workers, friends and family. As Daniel starts to fall in love with Laura, things become problematic…
The film looks like a fascinating film, both artistic and thoughtful. A trailer of the film can be seen below. If the film looks of interest to you, you can also purchase tickets to see it at VIFF here.

We gratefully thank everybody who helped us put this together, including Sirota’s Alchymy, Abbe Gates and the Blazin’ Soccer Dogs, Savage Creek Golf Course & Driving Range, JAR Design Inc, and all the stars of our public service announcement. We’ll be adding a director’s cut of the PSA later this year, but for now, be one of the first to see our PSA here on our blog and Youtube site:

Main Street Drop-in Poetry
Here’s some more fantastic poetry from Kelly Sutherland again, one of the amazing people we support. It’s always great to be able to showcase the potential in the people we support. Poetry is just one of many talents.
Pretty City at Night
Earth ocean river streams
Green forests, glassy sand
City’s wet licking of water
Pretty twinkling gorgeous night

iPad: Technology and Developmental Disabilities
Although the iPad was never initially meant to be a tool for people with developmental disabilities, many people have discovered the benefits of the iPad for people with developmental disabilities. Additionally, new apps have been developed to help people with developmental disabilities who use the iPad. For example, there’s Leo, who we have tweeted about before on @DDA604. Leo used various apps to help learn and communicate (video below).
Caleigh, who has cerebral palsy, also uses the iPad to communicate.
Have any other parents found success using the iPad to teach or communicate with their children? With or without developmental disabilities?

Holiday Options Summer Social
Yesterday our Training Room turned into a party room, as many of the people we support from our Holiday Options program came in for our Summer Social. Pizza and snacks were served, and the room was decorated with photos from all the Holiday Options adventures.
Next year, we hope to have just a great Summer with the people we support in our Holiday Options program.
