Summer Picnic at KIG
Last week, Kuldeep from the Kids in General Child Development Centre, which is located near the Vancouver General Hospital main building, invited me to attend their Annual Summer Picnic. Every year, I try to attend as many of these picnics as possible so I can experience the environment of each of our Child Development Centres, and as well, meet some parents and children who attend the centres. It’s a great way for me to see what age group belongs in which centre, the location, the friendliness of the staff, and of course, which families bring the best food
It’s interesting, cause every single picnic always has a great selection of food, and unique entertainment. At Kids in General, one of the staff played on her guitar and sang children’s songs to the kids. They were running about, but every time the chorus hit, they couldn’t help but sing along or dance to the rhythm.
As usual, the facepainting section was extremely popular, with a line up that never really quite seemed to get shorter.
Thanks to Kuldeep and the Staff at Kids in General for making it another wonderful Summer Picnic for me to enjoy!

Blogathon 2009 Recap
I’ve been trying to avoid the topic of Blogathon for awhile, since Joyce and I are both tired after finishing our long stretch of blogging last weekend, but at the end of all of it, I really should do a final recap on our experience. For me, it was an amazing experience. I did my blogging amongst 15 or so other likeminded individuals at Workspace in Gastown and was thoroughly impressed by the passion and ardor of the other bloggers I was fortunate enough to blog alongside with.
Raul Pacheco-Vega, also known as Hummingbird604 on his blog and Twitter, tirelessly blogged for the BC Cancer Foundation and was an inspirational and motivational character who managed to blog for the entire 24-hours without rest.
Rebecca Bollwitt, was also another motivational person at Blogathon. Besides organizing Vancouver’s Blogathon, she also intermittently dropped by on multiple occasions to see how myself and other bloggers were doing. She was also the top Blogathon fundraiser raising over $5000 for the Union Gospel Mission!
Joyce and I are both excited to partake in Blogathon 2010. I hope to see everybody from last year again and look forward to meeting some new people as well.
For anybody who’s not familiar with Blogathon, check out the blog post by Gillian Shaw (from the Vancouver Sun) on her blog Digital Life, on Vancouver’s Blogathon 2009.

Blogathon: One Last Post
So here it is, the end of Vancouver Blogathon 2009. It’s been both a great experience and rewarding experience as we’ve managed to raise over $400 for the Developmental Disabilities Association and meet some new people in the blogging community. I think in every other post or so I’ve given thanks to our supporters and the other bloggers, but I would really like to thank all the donors and Joyce for making the DDA’s first Blogathon experience a good one. Again, if you have the chance, please visit some of the other blogs written by other people here in Vancouver waking up early and staying up late to support charitable causes. Great job to everyone who pulled through; donations to different charities have totalled over $41,000! We look forward to seeing everybody again at Blogathon 2010!

Blogathon: Recycling
The Developmental Disabilities Association is primarily recognized for the programs and services we provide to people with developmental disabilities. That aside, we also strongly promote other initiatives to help our community at large. One of which is our recycling initiative. We have an entire page on our website dedicated to our efforts of being a sustainable organization, in addition to having won the 2009 Recycling Council of BC’s Mobi Award for excellence in environmental stewardship. We also started a green committee to encourage more green initiatives throughout our office. -
Blogathon: Last Status Update
This will be the last Blogathon status update till we hit our total of 49 blogs! Or at least I hope this to be the last status update. I would like to dedicate this blog to a few of the bloggers that I’ve met here at Blogathon Vancouver.
- Miss604 - The star behind Blogathon Vancouver. It’s her determination and organization that’s made this happen. She was the one to find sponsors for this event, and was also visited the Developmental Disabilities Association earlier this year to feature us in a full blog post.
- Hummingbird604 – Also known as Raul, has been very kind to introduce me to other bloggers here at Workspace. He’s also been great helping offering tips in social media. His help is definitely appreciated!
- Tinybites.ca – Karen Hamilton, who I mentioned in an earlier Blogathon post, was extremely welcoming and offered me cookies and pho as sustenance to get through this long night of blogging.
Thanks to the three of you and everybody else for making Blogathon a success. Conversation has decayed a bit here in Workspace, but I know that’s because we’re all focusing our 4am brainpower on blogging!
