  • 1st Annual Creekside Child Development Centre Thanksgiving Day Lunch

Date: 2011.10.12 | Category: Child & Youth Services, Events, Uncategorized | Response: 0

    By Katharine Naughton

We have many things to be thankful for at Creekside and to celebrate we shared a special Thanksgiving Day Lunch.  The Turkeys were prepped and in the oven by 7am on Thursday morning, the children each brought in a vegetable to share with their friends.  We had spaghetti squash, mashed potatoes, beans, corn, yams, acorn squash, carrots and cranberries.

The children sat all together as though they were at a big family dinner.  The tables were decorated with orange plates and cups and small pumpkins lined the table. By the time we were finished are tummy’s were full and we were thankful for that!

Before we had our special lunch we talked to the children about what it meant to be thankful.  We then asked our 3 and 4 year olds what they were thankful for, here some of their responses:

    • My mommy, daddy, sister and triceratops
    • Sleepovers at Grandmas
    • Eating and riding my scooter to school and living with my mommy and daddy
    • Lightning McQueen
    • My mommy, daddy and stuffies
    • Carrots
    • My watch
    • My Bracelet
    • For everything

We hope that everything had a wonderful Thanksgiving day with Family and Friends

  • Leisure Challenge’s Tie Dye Project

    Date: 2011.08.30 | Category: Child & Youth Services | Response: 0

The children and teachers would like to thank the teens at the Leisure Challenge program for adding a splash of colour to Creekside. They did a beautiful job tie dying our boring white face cloths and towels into amazing colourful works of art.  The are quite the conversation starter about colours of the rainbow!

Thank you to our Leisure Challenge Friends

  • Playhouse and Mickey Mouse!

Playhouse Child Development had a fun filled picnic with past and present families in attendance.  It was heart-warming to see kids who previously attended the center come and laugh, eat and chat with us.  The weather was spectacular and we had blankets set up outside and the teachers created a party setting with balloons, streamers and bingo dabber tablecloths.  We also had a misty sprinkler set up to cool us off from some of the spicy and yummy food.

The kids really enjoyed a surprise visit from Mickey Mouse!!  She entertained the kids with balloons of various shapes and colors and she also did face painting with sparkly designs.  One of our parents and a co-workers spouse did a terrific job with the BBQ and kept everyone coming for more buns and burgers.

We also had a visit from George Stitch who came on behalf of United Commercial Travelers.  We are fortunate to be one of many recipients’ to receive some funds from this terrific organization.  He enjoyed talking with the families and meeting the teachers.

We were so happy with the energy and excitement that happened this evening that we cannot stop talking about it!!  We hope to jazz it even more next time.

  • Summer Picnic at KIG

    Date: 2010.07.30 | Category: Child & Youth Services | Response: 0

Last week, Kuldeep from the Kids in General Child Development Centre, which is located near  the Vancouver General Hospital main building, invited me to attend their Annual Summer Picnic. Every year, I try to attend as many of these picnics as possible so I can experience the environment of each of our Child Development Centres, and as well, meet some parents and children who attend the centres. It’s a great way for me to see what age group belongs in which centre, the location, the friendliness of the staff, and of course, which families bring the best food :)

It’s interesting, cause every single picnic always has a great selection of food, and unique entertainment. At Kids in General, one of the staff played on her guitar and sang children’s songs to the kids. They were running about, but every time the chorus hit, they couldn’t help but sing along or dance to the rhythm.

As usual, the facepainting section was extremely popular, with a line up that never really quite seemed to get shorter.

Thanks to Kuldeep and the Staff at Kids in General for making it another wonderful Summer Picnic for me to enjoy!

  • Waffle Breakfast at KIG!

    Date: 2010.04.16 | Category: Events | Response: 0

Kids in General Child Development Centre (KIG)  on Laurel Street had their annual Waffle Breakfast! Everyone was invited to come join the breakfast. It was $5/adult and $3/child, and all proceeds went to KIG.

I had to see what the waffles were all about, so I hiked up to KIG to have some breakfast myself! There were freshly made waffles topped with strawberries and strawberry sauce, as well as whipped cream, butter, your own helping of syrup, and a slice of orange. The waffles were made by the KIG staff, themselves!

I haven’t had such a large breakfast in such a long time.
